I notice that there is a little distortion in my left ear.  It seems that it might be related to setting the gain on the HP2.  It appears that I have corrected the problem by reducing the input volume to the HP2 and increasing the output volume on the HP2.  There is really no information regarding this issue in the manual.  I'm just requesting verification that there could be a clipping problem with the HP2.

The HP2 tech specs state a maximum input level of +4 dBV ( <0.01% THD+N, unity gain ).

It is possible that the input gain was too hot. The way you explained resolving this is the proper way to adjust the signal path.
