How do I configure generic control surface to send CCs to current active instrument?

I have a couple of midi control surfaces, the particulars of which don't matter since the problem is common to all of them. I want to configure faders to control Kontakt instruments for Modulation, Expression, and Vibrato (in my case, CC1, CC11 and CC21) across a series of instruments depending on which track I have highlighted. For instance, I have one track with Violin, one track with Viola, and one track with Cello all running in a single instance of Kontakt, each instrument assigned to separate midi and audio channels. With Control Link, I can link the controller to send a CC to a specific instrument within the Kontakt instance (say, the Violin Expression) but when I change from working on the Violin to the Viola, I have to reassign all the faders by hand so they now point to the correct attributes of the Viola. Is there a way to automate this or to set it up so that, like a keyboard sending the modulation wheel data, the active track simply responds to CCs coming from the control surface? It would certainly make my life easier.

Create the same focus map for every MIDI channel you plan to use that CC on. Add another CC11 control in Control Link but on MIDI channel 2. See if that helps. You may have to switch the hardware to a different MIDI each time though.

Is it possible only in Studio One or in Cubase 9 too?
