performance issues?

my laptop crashed over the weekend. I lost every thing and had to do a fresh install of windows. I just got everything working again and was working on a song and noticed the performance meter acting crazy. the cpu monitor was ok, but the disc bar was all over th place. I didn't have that issue before. it was clipping and causing audio drop out. I have drop out protection on high, and have set my samples high, but the disc meter is still going awol. is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

If your computer crashed, and you did not replace the hard drive, you may want to open the Event Viewer on Windows and look for Events with ID number 7 in them.  Event ID 7 indicates bad blocks on your hard drive.  If you have bad blocks, you may want to replace the drive.  To open the Event Viewer, just type "Eventvwr" into a "Run" command line or Cortana.  Without the quotes of course.  You can then go into the Event Viewer>Windows Logs>System and look for errors that have the event id of 7.  Make sure that they are bad blocks by double-clicking the events.  Antivirus updates can also have event id number 7.  

You also want to make sure that you have a Device Block Size that is set high enough for your system.  Try increasing your Device Block Size, aka ASIO Buffer Size, in your driver control panel, prior to opening Studio One.

Make sure that you are not running a 5400 rpm hard drive as those are too slow to work with audio applications.
