how do i get the input right and left options in the I/O settings window? My mic isn't taking in sound.

i have a mac pro with 2.7 GHz dual-core intel core i5 with 3MB L3 cache (turbo boost up to 3.1 GHz)

8 GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM

256 GB of flash storage

In order to be able to help you further, additional information such as what sort of mic, interface and overall general setup is needed. Basic computer specs are not enough to assist you with your question here.
