Hi,
What online tech instructions are you speaking of? Have you gone to Start menu > control panel > sound > playback and selected the sound playback device, be it the computer or your audio device? If the speakers are connected to the computers green audio out jack you would need to be connected via the the computers onboard sound device, like "realtech audio default device" ... if the speakers are attached to your audio device (like the Audiobox USB for instance) then you need to make sure that THAT is checked with a green check and it should say "Default device".
Hopefully you have set up a "My Presonus" account, and have your Presonus hardware, and software registered in that account. Should all of the above have been covered, try uninstalling S1 and re-installing it from your My Presonus account.
There is a Knowledge base:
http://support.presonus.com/home
Where there are a lot of articles to help you solve issues in a timely fashion, however, it's a good idea to start a tech service ticket (again you can do this from your account). Presonus has limited resources as far as techs, so it can take a while for them to get to you... as it's first come first served.
There are also a TON of video's out there... on the Presonus site and through keyword searches for youtube and even a facebook group and homestudiotrainer
