What is a good methodology to test proper functioning of a legacy FireStudio 26X26?

I am considering purchasing a used legacy FireStudio 26X26 interface from a friend, and would like to test the unit to verify it is functioning properly. What is a good methodology for performing a comprehensive test of all inputs/outputs capabilities and general functions to verify the unit performs within spec?

I have the interface in my possession.

First of all, it's important to note the FireStudio 2626 is no longer supported and is no longer able to be serviced by PreSonus; this info available here:

You can also see that the drivers only support Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP, or OSX 10.6 and 10.7:

If you are running a newer operating system it is unlikely that the device will work correctly.

 

If you are using a PC you will want to be sure your firewire chipset is on our list of approved firewire chipsets:
