For some reason it is not being recognized and I am on a 11th gen intel (R) i5- 11400F @ 2.60Ghz 16.0GB 64 bit operating system Windows home 10 .

But when I get into My pro tools application I can here myself using the mic and adjusting controls but it doesn’t show up as the input I tried looking in settings and I found the error code 43 saying that “ the last usb device was unrecognizable” I have already tried deleting the usb restarting and all that as well as installing diff version of the universal control and nothing is working even the mixer screen reads No Driver-Unlinked and I am using the 6 pin FireWire to usb any insight on this ?

Presonus Firestudio Project won't turn on

I'm trying to start using an old Firestudio Project I haven't used in awhile.

When I go to turn it on, no lights light up. It's well past warranty so I opened it up to diagnose.

I found the red power light is faintly blinking, and the internal power supply is making a clicking sound.

I used a multi-meter to check voltages that are being sent from the power supply, and found the following:

15v = 19.4v actual
-15v = -17.8v actual

48v = 53v actual
5.4v = 6.1v actual

There are 2 tap lines on the main circuit board to check voltages, and these are also way off
3.3v = 0.67v actual
5.4v = 1.66v actual

Is there anything that can be done to fix this, or are the voltages a sign that some circuits are malfunctioning beyond repair?

Only 2012 intel or does 2018 intel also work?

I'd like to try this in the near future, but one part confuses me:

"Note: The driver will seemingly only run properly on pre 2012 Macs up to Catalina. Later than Catalina require a VT-D capable motherboard. This information comes from OpenCore forum and appears to be a MacOS limitation, not a problem with the driver itself."

Does this mean your installer will only work on old (pre) 2012 Macs or should it work on my 2018 Mac mini as well? (10.14 now, I'd like to move to 10.15 or higher so I can run Ableton with the Firestudio Project).

USB Audiobox One output sounds louder

I have a two-channel USB audiobox interface connected to a Windows 10 computer, the problem is that one output to monitors sounds louder than the other. I have tried with the same cable changing only the output (R-L) and one sounds louder than the other, I already uninstalled and downloaded the driver again and the problem was not solved.

I would like to know if it is a known problem or what it could be?

Firestudio mobile same issue. Using midi for Roland TD9. Spdif R/L alternate pop/clicking random. Changing clock source to spdif is no use as there is no external source - red/blue light flickers and no sound. Muting and zeroed out faders do nothing either.
CLicking stops if i remove the midi spdf plug - not useful for midi applications

Happens on both imac (lion 10.7.5, 3.5ghz, 32gb ram) and macbook pro (Sierra 10.12.6, 2.5ghz, 16gb ram)
Connected gear: TD9 on and off. Mandala USB.

Other than that the units hot

Hi steenhive – thanks for so much for your work on keeping the Firestudio Project going!

I had this working on Catalina with your workaround a while back – but after a hiatus I have turned on the old Firestudio Project to find all the lights are blinking and I could not sync the device.

I re-downloaded the 'firestudio-catalina-sur-ventura-0.4.4.dmg'. The install process ran smoothly. After a reboot the device has synced, but the microphone lights are still rapidly blinking away.

The good news is that I can now sync the device: the main power light is blue, and I can play and record audio.

The bad news is that all the microphone lights are constantly and rapidly blinking, and any recording is peppered with the internal sound generated by this blinking. This blinking shows up as an audio signal in the Universal Controller and is also very audible on any audio recorded. I have disconnected the unit from the computer and the blinking persists. Oddly, the blinking stopped for a little while, I can get a signal to record, but there is still some internal hum/flutter sound being picked up while recording. After a reboot, the bllinking has returned. So it's a bit of a hot mess.

Would there be any way to troubleshoot this? Happy to provide as much information and would be useful.

I'm running quite an old machine:

Solved it myself. Seemed to be an issue with the firewire card I was using (desktop). I bought a Texas Instruments based chip instead and it is now pairing fine.

My MacOS 10.15.7 MacBookPro Catalina works well with Firepod bought in 2005. It was just plug and use with the Firewire 800 into MacBook. Used with Cubase 12 and no issues. I wish that were the same with MacOS 14 Sonoma.

Regarding Presonus feature requests, Presonus Studio One is my preferred DAW, but it currently lacks the ability to automate the Mute button for MIDI/VST Instrument Tracks (*see pic: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fC7Bktj8XS3--Ys8jNHb9U1w6Irej14M/view?usp=sharing).

As shown above, automation of this parameter has been faithfully used in other DAWs to get the job done quickly since at least the early 90’s, in the hay-day of loop/pattern based electronic music. Certain aspects of the musical arrangements are repeated, with other aspects being the result of the incorporation of live instrumentation and/or intricate harmonies that result in a polished end result. Surprisingly the Mute button for VST/MIDI Instrument Tracks is already present in Studio One, but the full functionality of this parameter is currently not automatable for whatever reason.

With the implementation of this feature, in addition to the current time intensive and meticulous functions of muting and/or splitting individual MIDI events and/or muting MIDI notation from the piano roll, we would additionally have the exponentially faster and more intuitive option to arrange a whole song by simply muting MIDI notation in real-time using a write automation!

An entire song could be arranged in a single playback, which is essentially the time it takes to listen to the song! In the best case scenario, MIDI notation would be muted in real-time as the playhead scrolls from left to right, which would happen in a way very similar to that of how audio waveforms suddenly appear when recording audio. In the event the seamless version of this feature request is not possible (i.e. real-time muting as playhead scrolls), I’m sure this request can be accomplished as a 2 step process.

The first step would be writing the automation for the initial Mute button of each respective MIDI/VST Instrument Track to their respective automation Lane, which can be done in a single playback. The second half of this request is for the implementation of an offline process that allows for the mute automations written in the resulting MIDI Mute automation lane to translate to the piano roll. Users would simply click the VST Instrument track lane(s) they wish to print to MIDI, whether just one or several at a time, select the offline function. Once the offline funcion is completed, the resulting notation would still be visible but muted and the mute automation lane would be reset accordingly.

We currently have limited use of this functionality using Audio Mute, with the difference being that MIDI mute automation mutes notation only, not audio. As a result, MIDI mute is much more effective at accomplishing the task of song arrangement with a considerably more clean and polished professional sounding end result, as the resulting audio is NOT truncated when using MIDI mute. When using MIDI Mute, VST Instrument release times for (dry) VST instruments remain intact and are allowed to sound the full duration of their decay, as well as any insert effects (i.e. reverb, delays, etc) for the VST instrument’s respective audio channel!

I submitted a request to add this basic function to Studio One, because MIDI arrangement would be exponentially faster if automation of this parameter was an option. As mentioned above, I want to reiterate that this basic functionality is a standard feature, which comes included in the majority of most all other DAWs. Studio One users shouldn’t be left behind on this time saving workflow.

The second half of this request addresses the need for mute automations to translate to sheet music via Presonus Notation software. In this same feature request, I included the option for the creation of an offline process that allows for the mute automations written in the resulting MIDI Mute automation lane to translate to the piano roll. Notation would still be visible but muted.

Having the second part of this request implemented would allow for effective translation of MIDI- to-sheet music production, film scoring, as well as live instrument performance by band and orchestras. Needless to say, Presonus users would be equipped not only for faster creation of finished MIDI arrangements, but also fully prepared for sheet music presentation to music supervisors or directors when the opportunity for live television and or media placements present themselves!

PreSonus Firestudio 2626 As Preamp

I found a presonus furestudio 2626 on facebook marketplace for around 20$, was wondering if it’s possible to use it as an amp before my shure sm7b goes to my interface. Currently my interface doesn’t have a lot of gain so my mic sounds pretty quiet, and this seemed like the cheapest solution (upgrading in the future but moving into school so have to keep my budget on the low side for now.)

tldr can i use a presonus firestudio 2626 as a preamp? Shure sm7b -> firestudio -> interface -> pc.

(that’s not my interface in the picture, im using a mtrack duo)

Hi All,

Just wanted to share some info on my old firewire interfaces that might help some people. I’ve had a FireStudio 2626 and FireStudio Lightpipe running on my Mac for years now. Everything worked fine until macOS Monterey 12.2. After installing 12.3 the interfaces would no longer work. The Mac saw the interfaces in System Profiler, but they did not appear in Audio MIDI Setup or System Preferences. I upgraded to Ventura 13.0.0 a few weeks ago and nothing changed. Then macOS 13.0.1 was released so I decided to try a full wipe and re-install... It worked! Both units are back online and fully functional!

A few notes:

I installed the latest firewire driver (v3.6.4.87069).
I have to plug the Lightpipe into the Mac, then daisy-chain the 2626 to the Lightpipe.
I have to start the Lightpipe and let it sync, then turn on the 2626.
Sometimes they don’t want to sync. There are two fixes:
- Turn them off and try again. This is usually what works.
- Check the clock source in Audio MIDI Setup (since Universal Control doesn't work) and made sure it's set to "Internal" on the Lightpipe - For me, it's the one on the bottom of the list.
The MSR works great – Full functionality.
All 58 I/O are seen in Audio MIDI Setup and Pro Tools.
“PreSonus FireStudio” is seen in System Preferences and can be used for system input/output and System Sounds.
Pro Tools runs reliably, even with the buffer all the way down to 32 samples.
I have not been able to use Universal Control since macOS 10.13 or 10.14, so I use an older Mac with an OSX Mountain Lion (10.8) partition and UC 1.2 (the last version to support both devices) to zero the levels or make changes. When I plug the units back into the newer Mac, the levels are right where I left them.
I discovered that I can use the 2626 as a monitor controller in standalone mode using the same method.
I can create monitor mixes in Pro Tools instead of using UC.

System Specs:

Mid 2012 13” MacBook Pro, Core i7 2.9GHz, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, 750GB HDD
macOS Ventura 13.0.1 (via OCLP)
Avid Pro Tools Studio 2022.10.0

I have also read that some people are having success with other firewire interfaces on newer Macs using a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, then into a Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire adapter. So despite the doom and gloom of macOS Ventura and Apple Driver Kit not supporting firewire, it seems there’s still some life left in these trusty old interfaces afterall!

UPDATE, 2022-11-16:

I was testing different driver versions and I ended up losing these units again. I remembered reading somewhere that sometimes Monterey & Ventura do not prompt you to re-authorize an app/driver when you re-install it. The solution is to fully uninstall the driver, and you might still need to reset the prompts (deep in Terminal). So I tried the PreSonus firewire driver uninstaller (v3.6.4.87069) but it currently does not work on Ventura - It fails to rewrite the kext cache properly so I removed the following line from the Script:

do shell script "kextcache -update-volume /" with administrator privileges

I re-ran the uninstaller Script and it successfully completed. After a reboot I re-installed the driver - This time macOS prompted me to authorize the driver, then macOS rebuilt the cache on its own. After another reboot the FireStudios were back! They've been working flawlessly for a few days now. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Firestudio Line Outs

Need to set up two spkr systems to be controlled by output faders (Cakewalk).

I have M-Audio 4" near-field plugged into Main 1&2 (Daw1). Want to only hear 4" as default and control with volume knob on the front.

I have Yamaha 8" plugged into 3&4 (Daw3) for distance. Have set up separate Cakewalk bus to output to 8". Should be able to control with faders. Volume faders work, however, no matter how I config, sound is out of both systems. Does Main sum all 8 outputs. Doc says only 1&2.

Does Firestudio not do this? Would PreSonus Studio 1824c?

I found my problem was with the clock source. Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup. The Firewire light on my Firestudio Project was blinking red/blue. I changed the Clock Source from SPDIF to Internal and the light changed to solid blue (sync'd). Unfortunately, this was after repeatedly trying to install Universal Control 1.7.4 on Catalina, which was never successful.

I'm trying to send stereo out signal from the general output on my firestudio project interface into my Roland TD17 drum module for recording. I had it setup previously before moving to another house and when I did my setup again at my new house it doesn't seem to working properly. I feel like it is something to do with the universal control on my computer. I'm only receiving a mono signal therefor it is only coming out of my left studio monitor out of my drum module. Like I said, I had it working before where I would get a stereo signal therefor coming out of both left and right speakers.

Hi There,

USB-to-Firewire adapter do not work and never have worked, as they are completely different protocols. Not sure why scammers are still selling these useless adapters. You will need a Thunderbolt 3 to Firewire adapter (https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/MD464LL/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapter) and a Firewire 400 to 800 cable. You can download the firewire driver from the Firebox support page (https://www.presonus.com/products/FireBox/downloads), but you might also want to try the latest firewire driver which can be found inside the installer DMG of any newer interface support page.

That said... I have been running a Firestudio 2626 and Firestudio Lightpipe for years but when I updated to macOS 12.3 they stopped working. Universal Control v1.7.6 (which is the last to work with the 2626) stopped working in macOS 10.14 or 10.15 (can't remember exactly when) but the interfaces still worked perfectly fine. They are now seen by macOS System Profiler but do not appear as audio interfaces. macOS 12.4 was supposed to fix firewire issues but it hasn't fixed things for me. Hopefully a future update will restore functionality. Others have reported Firewire functionality was restored with 12.4, so I can't say whether or not it'll work for you.

UPDATE: Last night I updated OpenCore Legacy Patcher to v0.4.8 (I'm running macOS 12.4 on a 2012 13" MacBook Pro) and did a fresh Build and Install OpenCore. After a restart, Post Install Root Patch, and PRAM Reset, both Firestudios are working again! I still need to connect them to my 2008 MacBook Pro to make changes to the I/O / monitor / clock setup, but the changes hold when connected to the newer laptop.

I'm having the same issue on my Mac Studio. The CS18 shows up in Universal Control and also in the MAC Audio/Midi setup, but when I open a project in Studio One, the CS18 does not detect Studio One. However, it all works fine on my PC. Is this a known problem? Or do I need to configure additional settings on the Mac?

I have an old (discontinued) Firebox: still works fine, but functionality is a bit limited now that the software mixer is no longer compatible with my Mac OS (currently running 10.15.7). It seems that the hardware defaults to sending the main output also to the front-of-box headphone jack. I have been able to send a cue output (from Ableton Live) to this headphone jack using the software mixer.
Is there any way to force the hardware to do this by default? The interface works fine without the mixer, but I would like to have the isolated cue output available (using for DJing). I hate to have to completely trash this piece just because PreSonus has chosen not to maintain software!

Check the chipset and operating system on that new mac. If it's past 10.14.6 Mojave or has an M1 chipset it won't function.

Otherwise you should just need some adapters.

I am trying to use the Firestudio 2626 with an iMac 5,1 running 10.6.8. Universal control does not display but in a tiny sized window so I am not able to mute input channel monitors which makes multi-tracking very hard. Is there another piece of software that can be used or some way to trick the window into displaying large? It cannot be maximized or scrolled through.

Windows 10 and firewire seems to be no problem: i just set up an i5 / 16GB RAM, PCI firewire card with TI chipset! controlling an old StudioLive 16.0.2 - everything (UC, UC surface @ android, capture) seems to work fine

multitrack recording will be tomorrow with the whole band...

Pre1 - (Pre-fader) Audio is sent to the Aux mix directly after the Preamp/Gain from the Main Mix layer. FAT Channel adjustments and Fader position from the Main mix are not included in the signal.
Pre2 - (Pre-fader) Audio is sent to the Aux mix directly after the FAT Channel adjustments. Gain, EQ, Comp, Gate and Limiter are all included in the signal to the Aux layer. Fader position from the Main Mix has no bearing on the signal into the Aux.
Post - (Post-fader) Audio is sent to the Aux mix after Gain, FAT Channel adjustments, and Main mix fader-position. All information is included in the signal.

Universal Control stopped working with my StudioLive 24.4.2 mixer

I have used my StudioLive 24.4.2 for years with Studio One. Today it failed to load as an audio device in Studio One v4. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Universal Control for my model 6 times. I tried a factory reset and the message says the attached hardware is up-to-date. When I go to configure Audio Devices it says Windows Audio. When I select PreSonus Firestudio it says failed to install at start up. When I retry it says it again.

I recently upgraded from 8gb to 16gb of RAM on my newish PC running 64 bit Windows 10. My Firestudio Project (connected via a firewire port) will not sync now. I've installed the most recent version of Universal Control and upgraded my firewire card driver. This seems like a weird reaction to a memory upgrade. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thank you steenhive! I was finally able to get my iMac to once again use my FireStudio with Garageband. For some reason this did not work until I used the most recent link and installed it after moving to Monteray (12.01). At first, I couldn't get the sound to work but discovered that by going the Utilities folder and opening Audio MIDI Setup and clicking on PreSonus FireStudio found in the left menu and then clicking on Configure Speakers in the lower right-hand corner, that did the trick. The sound came through to Garageband. Prior to doing this even with PreSonus Firewire selected for input and output, there was no sound. For the first time since I bought my iMac in 2020, I can now record and listen to playback using Garageband with the install I downloaded from the above link provided by Steenhive. Thank you Steenhive, your fix has just extended the life of my Firestudio Mobile!

In the past I used 2 Firestudio Project interfaces daisy-chained, in an older Mac mini.

It does not works anymore, and I believe this is due to the Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt Adapter I use on a 2015 MacBook Pro. Each interface works normally individually.

Can I make it work by adding a second Apple Firewire to Thunderbolt Adapter, connecting both interfaces directly, and aggregate the devices in Mac OS ? Will that ever work correctly ?

This product will not work on an Apple M1. You need to use an Intel based Mac running Mojave or lower.

Hi what happens if you use Universal Control v3.6.0.66460 instead in your Mac mini M1 to your Firestudio Project. There is a firewire driver included that you should install first then install the universal control. It would be interesting to know if it works because i´m thinking of buying a M1 to my 3 Firestudio Project but only if it works

Just a long shot, but did you recently turn on Secure Boot in your motherboards BIOS? I just did this, because it is a requirement for Windows 11, and my Firestudio Mobile stopped working like how you described. Once I turned Secure Boot back off, everything worked correctly again.

I have been trying to get information on how to dasey chain two fp10s.... the only info Presonus is providing is;

1) your equipment is 10 years old.
2) we dont care how much money you have invested in the interfaces
3) we dont care that they are otherwise operating perfectly
4) although we probably do have software that would enable your interfaces to do what we initially bragged that they did so well...
5) we've disabled all links to the drivers and software ( we didnt say that the drivers dont exist or that we dont have them)... we are saying that we arent going to let you have them... because you should spend another $2000 for the new stuff... not because the new stuff works better but because the old stuff... is old ..... and we think that you should be good consumers and spend more money.... after all this IS a throw away society.
6) we recommend that you trash your otherwise perfectly usable stuff and BY NEW PRESONUS STUFF.... no !!! dont buy scarlettes !!

In my opinion.... PreSonus stopping support of older equipment that was otherwise very nice.... indicates a CLEAR disloyalty to the customers.

Although I do own two FP10s..... without support... I ..... wont ..... EVER BUY ANOTHER PreSonus...anything.

I went to MIDI setup and increased the volume of outputs but not worked. Firstly I installed the UniversalControl, but with the problem I found on the internet that it is not compatible with this interface anymore, so I uninstalled the software and configured via MIDI Setup, but the problem remains.
