Are my Eris 3.5s broken?

I have a Windows machine connected to an NI Komplete Audio 2. The NI box is connected to a set of Eris 3.5 monitors. It all worked fine for about thirty minutes playing some quiet audio, then the speakers tossed out a very loud burst of static and are no longer producing sound. The power light is on.

Audio is definitely flowing to the NI Komplete: I can connect a pair of headphones and hear sound; I can plug the outputs from the NI into different speakers and hear sound.

The monitors are definitely not producing audio: A pair of headphones plugged into the Eris headphone jack is silent. I don't think I have anything to test as an aux in, at least not laying around. Cranking the volume all the way does nothing.

I'm not sure what other troubleshooting is left. Did I get a lemon? These monitors are brand new as of yesterday.

Is there a recommended fix for the Eris E8 hum?

I've owned a pair of Eris E8 for several years and enjoy their sound. Having made music in a London flat during this period of use I've recently relocated to a studio space that is not polluted by fridge, street and general background city sounds.

I noticed a hum since i first used them but only when very close (ear next to woofer), in a sealed studio it's clear the monitors emit a constant hum and high frequency noise, standalone (unplugged from any audio source).
I've tried the monitors in other plug sockets away from the studio, different power cables etc, the hum is ever present.

There are many unanswered comments and reviews online (both on this site and elsewhere) regarding this hum on the E8 that seem identical to what i've experienced since purchasing. But no clear response or answers that i've seen.

I would really appreciate understanding if this hum/noise known to affect some or all units and if there are any known resolutions to this issue. I suspect my guarantee is long gone so any insight into current repair options (if any) with an authorised engineer in the UK would be really helpful. I want to keep using them!

Change threshold for standby feature on Tremblor T8?

Hi there,

I have an ongoing issue where signal going through the Tremblor isn't enough to trigger the standby feature. So music is constantly cut-off, which requires the volume be turned-up until the standby is triggered.

But this...

Creates a bust of incredibly loud music which is blood-boiling

Pops the Eris monitors connected to it which is incredibly annoying

The system sounds great but this standby feature is so mind-numbing that I'm going to physically remove it if there isn't a way to change the threshold on the incoming signal. If speakers sleep while music is playing, what's the point? Truly.

Here's hoping there's a way to fix it without physically butchering it.

Namaste.

E5s simultaneously overheated, will not turn back on a day later. Can this be fixed?

Hey there, my Eris E5s got extremely hot when I was playing them, then shut off altogether. I've tried replacing the fuses (although the old ones were intact), and have opened them up and there is no visible damage to the inside of the speakers. I've also tried different power cords to no avail, and am wondering what the next steps might be, as I have no warranty on them.

Presonus Eris 3.5 - Loud popping sound when turning off!!!!!!

I'm so tired of this! I don't know how to solve it! I've read hundreds of threads on reddit, I've read dozens of threads here in the presonus answers and I haven't found a single concrete answer on how to fix it!

Every time I go to bed I turn off my laptop, then turn off my studio monitors and they make a loud cracking/popping noise, my wife thinks I'm throwing something on the table...
These are my second monitors, I've tried everything, the order of switching off, different cables, I've tried different power supply, even just when I plug them in and out (without an audio source) they still make a loud crackling noise when they are turned off!

Presonus will you finally answer how to fix this? What did I pay money for?

Does the bluetooth connection to Eris Sub8BT also drive the wired outputs to the bookshelf speakers?

The Sub8 supports pass-thru with high-pass filtering which is great. A common installation connects the line source (my PC) to the Sub8's inputs and then the Sub8's outputs drive a pair of amplified mid/high frequency speakers. By using the Sub8's high pass filter and low frequency cut-off, one can ensure the subwoofer and the other speakers are each handling the frequencies they handle best.

What happens if I connect the Sub8 over bluetooth when I'm still wiring the other speakers to the Sub8's outputs? Does the Sub8 act the same way, sending the low frequency component of the audio received via Bluetooth to itself while sending the mid/high frequency components of that Bluetooth audio to the other, wired, speakers?

That (to me) would be much preferred to connecting all three speakers over bluetooth. Passing the bluetooth audio through the Sub8 ensures it can high pass filter that audio before passing it along to the other speakers. You don't get that if all the speakers connect directly to the source over bluetooth.

Speakers cutting in and out - noise, crackling, connected to DELL Monitor

Hello everyone,

I received my Eris Studio 4 Speakers yesterday and wanted to test them immediately.
My setup was as follows:
- 2 x Presonus Eris Studio 4

- 1 x Cable to connect both speaker to my DELL U2723qe Monitor Output (https://www.thomann.de/de/the_sssnake_ypk2030.htm)
- MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro Chip

- USB-C cable to connect my macbook pro to my dell monitor

When I turn the speakers on they start hissing and crackling and when I play music, the music cuts in and out (like a frequency with with 2 hz or something similar).
When I Connect the speakers with the cable directly to my macbook, it also crackles, but it does not cut in and out.
When I turn off the DELL Monitor and connect the speakers to my macbook, they work perfectly.

Does anybody know what the reason for this problem might be?
Is it the cable? Do I need to use the unbalanced port instead of the balanced?
And why does my external Display destroys the speaker signal but not my macbook?
I need to work with an external monitor (DELL) so not using a monitor is not an option.

I hope you can help me out, feel free to ask any questions, I try my best to answer them (I am not an audio or computer expert).

How is PreSonus going to address the high noise floor in Eris studio monitors?

I purchased 1st gen eris 4.5 monitors and encountered a very high noise floor when the monitors are turned on. The noise/hiss occurs when only the power cable is connected and no inputs are connected. I flip the switch and then a few seconds later the power amps kicks on and the noise starts from both the tweeter and woofer. Before offering any suggestions, I have tried the following:

- disconnecting everything except the power cable

- plugging into every other outlet in the apartment, including multiple different power strips AND the grounded outlets in the kitchen and bathroom

- Wrapping the entire monitor in several layers of aluminum foil to eliminate any EMI/RF interference

- adjusting all gain knobs and frequency knobs. The noise occurs regardless of the position of any knob (ex. gain knob fully 0% and at 100%)

This noise can be heard whenever the power amplifier in the primary speaker kicks on. It can be heard from 6ft away. I understand all active monitors have some noise when listening very close to the speakers, but the level of noise is extremely audible from several feet away and can be heard when a source is plugged in and music is playing. The volume and character of the noise does not change with input source, input gain, monitor gain, position in the house, amount of additional shielding, etc.

Tech support sent me a replacement pair. Same issue. They then sent me the eris 4.5BT 2nd generation model, and the same issue occurs. Unbearable level of noise/hiss regardless of the set up. Note: this is not in some super quiet studio or anechoic chamber. This is in my apartment next to a busy road with the constant sound of cars going by, and this hiss is still audible from 6ft away.

What is PreSonus going to do to address this issue in the eris 4.5s?

HOW ONE DOES ONE CONNECT AN ERIS 5BT GEN 2 AND AN ERIS SUB 8BT CONCURRENTLY ON A PC UNDER WINDOWS 11

As stated, I would like to know how does one connect an Eris 5BT Gen 2 AND an Eris Sub 8BT concurrently on a PC under Windows 11? I just purchased a pair of new Eris 5BT Gen 2 Monitors AND an Eris Sub 8BT from Amazon and received them. I am attempting to install them on my system through a Bluetooth connection. I have been working on this for a couple hours, and I can find NO way to make both the Monitors AND the sub work at the same time. I can make them both output sound connected by Bluetooth separately but NOT at the same time in a 2.1 fashion. Windows appears to only allow output by Bluetooth to only one Bluetooth speaker. Not both. Can both speakers connect to one another by Bluetooth? There IS NOT a current "User Manual" on the PreSonus website for the newest models of the Eris 5BT Gen 2 or the Eris Sub 8BT.... If both the monitors and the sub cannot connect to the computer and function at the same time through Bluetooth, what is the point of having both of them Bluetooth? Did I waste money buying the newer speakers?

PreSonus Sub Volume Control

Audio newb here. I have a pair of Presonus Eris E3s paired with a Eris Sub 8BT hooked up to my PC, problem is I don't know how to set them up so the volume control also increases and decreases the sub volume. The only way I currently have to adjust the volume is with the gain control on the back of the sub.

I don't currently have a soundcard, using audio with Realtek audio drivers. The E3s are connected to the sub and the sub connects to the PC via Bluetooth.

R65v2 and R80v2 T10 balanced XLR pin connection method?

Hello guys! Happy to be here seeing all :-)

been trying to built up a small home theater using R80v2 for the front speakers, and R65v2 for the rear and surround ceiling speakers, T10 for the bass. (I know this setup is a little silly, please do not focus on this point ;_), first time for doing home theater stuff, try to get everything bigger^)preamp has XLR balanced outputs which has european standard pin connections method. Before connecting a power amp AV 10 (marantz.com)

pin1=GND (Ground)

pin2=HOT (+)

pin3=COLD (–)

just want to know R65v2 R80v2 and T10 using the same method for their XLR connection. They don't mention this in their manuals.

really appreciate your time and answer. Thanks in advanced!

pls forgive my english.

Eris 3.5 not powering up

I have owned my Eris 3.5s for over 2 years without any issues. Today I turned my Surge Protected power strip off at the wall, which includes many varying electronics, and turned it back on a few hours later and all my electronics turned back on as usual, other than my Eris 3.5s.

The blue LED indicator is off, and the monitors have no power and produce no sound, nor buzzing/noise. This is my first ever issue with my Eris 3.5s and I'd love an easy fix to solve all of this.

I have already tried using a different power cable, plugging into a different power strip, plugging directly into the mains, and plugging into the mains in a different room.

I use them in my work as a sound designer, so I am unable to work.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

which of these two pairs is best matched also based on their power and the power of the subwoofer?
I await your reply, thank you.

T10 was purchased on 08/11/23 and Eris's purchase date was on 01/05/16. I did verify letter by letter, number by number, Serial in the back of the unit is the same as the Registration paperwork included inside the box. Really odd.

I have restated devices, updated Bluetooth drivers, ran troubleshooters, made sure the speakers were not paired with more than 2 devices, followed all of the recommendations on Fix Bluetooth problems in Windows website, and I still cannot get the speakers to pair with my computer. I made sure the speakers were in pairing mode when attempting to pair. The PC is ibuypower, purchased in Summer 2022 from Best Buy. The speakers show up on my phone. The speakers sit 6 feet away from my computer. When the speakers are wired into the computer they work. My computer has no issue pairing with other devices. My partner is tech savvy and has tried all these + plus other solutions I may have not tried and he can't get it to work either.
Eris Sub 8 power unit improvements

I have some suggestions or recommendation for future builds of Eris Sub 8 and it's series.

First of all, I noticed that the main transformer causing a relatively big burmming noise. This noise can be detected when everything is quiet, but it was loud enough to be annoying even if my main computer is running. I disassembled the sub and noticed that the screws of transformer were loose. I don't know if it was caused by handling issue during transportation or manufacturing issue, but gluing the screws could fix / prevent this issue easily and cost effectively. I don't know if this was a unique situation or others experienced with the same issue, but I gently tighten the screws and the brumming noise gone.

The second problem I found is a switch on/off transient issue. This could be easily fixed by applying a small, 4.7 - 22nF / 600V capacitor + 500KOhm resistor in parallel of the main switch (between the two contacts). This used in many high-end systems to avoid switch-on/off transients.

The same must be added to ERIS studio monitors as well!

Future improvement could be a slow-switching on (so-called cold-start) circuit which could help reduce the stress to transformer and the whole power line. Some times, my UPS detecting that I'm switching it on...

Last recommendation to add a power outlet to Eris Sub and only switching on the SUB (of course it could be selectable) if the power outlet having a power consumer. Couple of Euros device can do this, but would be awesome to have this feature. Especially when users having Eris 3.5, 4, 5 monitors...

Interference issue, PC + Eris E3.5 = no noise, PC + Sub8 + E3.5 = noise from mouse?

Hunting some noise gremlins in my setup.

PC USB audo card (soundblaster g1) via 3.5mm to RCA to Eris E3.5 = no problem, very clean

PC USB audio card (soundblaster g1) via 3.5mm to Sub8 to Eris E3.5 via RCA cable = electrical noise made worse by mouse movement?

Tried a few different cables, isolating power and input device cables, even ferrite cores (desperation)... no difference. USB bus/motherboard to blame? Maybe the RCA cable? Switch to TRS between Sub and E3.5s?
