Question

With the Quantum interface (or any Presonus interface, really), what is the best method of recording v-drums/electronic drums in Studio One?  Should you connect directly to iMac/PC via USB, or as an instrument/line IN on the interface?

The Roland TD-25KV has a master out Left and Right, which I was thinking I could input into the front instrument inputs of the Quantum (1 and 2).  Would this work?  Should provide me w/ a stereo drum track.

I have the TD15. I take the audio outputs in to inputs 5 & 6 of the Quantum (or previously Studio 192) and create a stereo audio track for the VDrums. I recommend you name the stereo inputs 5 & 6 to VDrums in the main audio setup page. I then create an instrument track and connect it via midi. I then record everything using the midi track, using the audio track to monitor the sound. I then Explode all the events to different tracks (right click on midi part and select 'Explode pitches to tracks) so I have my various drums / cymbals each using their own track. I then bounce each part to audio with no effects and add the required effect to each audio part (gated reverb for bass drum, room reverb for snares / toms etc) adding any required EQ also to get rid of any nasty overpowering cymbal frequencies.

Phil, when creating the instrument track and connecting via midi, you mean connecting the drum module to the back midi input?  Or is there a way to create the midi data internally via software using the stereo track that youre using as a reference?
