How do I get a stereo output from my Studio Live 24 Series III?

I have 2 mics connected to the mixer.  Phantom pwr on.  Gain set.  Panned hard left and right.  Why do these 2 tracks show up as mono in the main mix?  (Both main output and headphones.  I scratch each mic and the signal shows up on both channels.
