I have a Presonus Quantum 4848 that uses 2 of the DB25 inputs for analog equipment, but I would like to add 2 8 channel preamps.  The DP88 seems like a good choice but I notice the controls would all be in software.

1) Is it possible to connect the DB25 out of an analog piece of gear direct to the DP88 with a DB25 cable and then connect that via DB25 cable to the Quantum 4848?  Does this allow access to the digital preamp controls?  Does this require word clock in this configuration?

2) Is it possible to connect the DB25 out of an analog piece of gear direct to the DP88 with a DB25 cable and then connect that via ADAT cable to the Quantum 4848?  Does this require wordclock? Does this mean that all the preamp controls will be in the Universal Control App or will this mean that I have to use Studio One to access the preamp controls?

Sounds like the best scenario would be to connect your DP88(s) via ADAT I/O on your Quantum 4848. This would give you control over the DP88 via Universal Control. The clocking would sync over the ADAT connections. Make sure you're routing your ADAT cables from Output to Input and that you have connected at least two ADAT cables per DP88 (4 cables for 96kHz SMUX). Word clock would not be necessary as long as your DP88 locks to the incoming ADAT connection.

Seek page 7 of the Quantum 4848 User Manual for a diagram of how to hook up 2x DP88s and 2x patchbays. It's a bit of a mess, but trace the red ADAT connections to figure out what to do.
