I can't get my mac (OS 10.14.6) to recognize my 1818VSL even after installing the universal control, what can I do?

I picked up a used 1818VSL to step up from my 44VSL but I can't get my mac running OS version 10.14.6 to recognize it. Is there anything I can do or is this interface not compatible? thanks
