would be great to have track versions, to try out different vibes, lyrics, melodies etc.

we can do something like that with scratchpads but it involves a lot of clicks. with track version would be instant.

I second that!

I just realized I had posted a duplicate feature request. This is how I would put it:

Now layers allow you to do that but they are confusing. One layer containing comping of other layers? Unless you name them correctly you risk getting things wrong. Comping can't overlap? It's a limit if you have an instrument with a very slow attack (eg. orchestral music).

In my opinion Layers should do what they do in Cubase: allow multiple takes and be able to hear the sum of all of them. They should allow you add musical overlapping parts in a track with different meanings (chords on layer 1, arpeggios on layer 2, transitions on layer 3,etc) or solo only one of them if they are multiple takes of the same part. Comping should be implemented to create the track from the addition of the layers. Therefore the comping would not be just another layer but the track itself and the process would be less confusing.

Track versions should be able to include layers in them. So, for example, each comping from a set of takes, would be a different track version.

Additionally you could allow the storage of the track versions in a user folder, to be able to load those in another project later. This would be a fantastic way to organize our music. Let's say for example that you build up a bunch of drum backtracks/intros/bridges/bass grooves. You could load those lists of track versions to be able to choose and listen to building parts very quickly (now you have to drag the MIDI, move it to its right position, listen, delete and repeat).
