Changing Note Lenght in Step Time Entry

Is there any way to change the note length afterwards in the step time editor? For me, that is essential, and I can't find any way to do it. What I can do is: leave step mode, click on a note, press =, which is shift+0 on european keyboards (not so great), and then select a new not value. That's way too many steps. What doesn't even work, is selecting the step with a wrong value (in step mode), choosing a new value, and then press the note again. And that still would be too time consuming. Why is there no feature like in MuseScore, where you press q, shift-q, w and shift-w after putting in notes, to make them double or even 1,5x the value? That would save very much time. I feel like Notion is not at all designed to change note length afterwards at all. Because if you do it somewhere in the middle of a phrase, the rest of the phrase gets pushed back in the measure if I change one note. The way it should be is that all notes stay in its place, and the changed length steals its space from the next note. So you could make quarter. + eight out of  2 quarters. But not locking the notes to their position in the measure doesn't make any musical sense at all, or does it? I overall really like the idea of Notion, but when it comes to this topic, it is so confusing, that Notion is not really usable for me.

I really don't understand why I can't press the back arrow, select a different note length and then replace the note with the wrong length.  How do other people do this in notion?  maybe hardly anyone uses step time?  I'm really confused!
