Please allow automatically renaming or targeting things (editable text) in series in Studio One.
General housekeeping is probably one of the most overlooked areas of most modern audio workstations. In general, software moves most smaller manual housekeeping tasks away from the user, makes them easier or more invisible, but generally speaking modern audio workstations completely overlook these things in favor of more shiny music production features. I'll give some examples below...
- Renaming Tracks: It's near ubiquitous across the industry that workstations don't have built in facilities to rename tracks in series, or strip characters from names (RegEx remove, replace), or add prefixes or suffixes to track names when it's almost certainly the case that all of those things are easily directly accessible to the developers in the background or in ram.
- Renaming Events: Same as above. Even without a user accessible API, it's surely not difficult for an application to series events and name or rename them in any sequential order. This also applies to exports of multiple events, to be able to give them some kind of custom prefix or suffix.
- Selection or Muting: Same as above, to look through events or tracks in a sequential way and do what the user wants like Solo any track that has "Vox" in the name or mute any clip that has X in the name, etc, etc. It's all just a simple RegEx serial operation.
- Track & Event Coloring: Same as above. Once you can identify anything (track or clip) by name you can perform any operation on it, like selecting a clip and telling the app to color all clips with X in the name to the same color, or other things like that
Most of that could be done with macros if the app did it in the background.
It's a little baffling to me that you can run something like Notepad and easily replace any text anywhere in it with any other text, something that is a pretty common expectation in any software that has user editable text...
.. but you'll spend $3-500 for a professional audio application with user editable text all over it and you can't do anything as simple as that, which if you pause to really think about it makes very little sense.
Thanks.
