Better Metronome

I would like to see a much improved metronome that can be set using a specific note on midi event sent to a midi device and is saved with a template. I don't like the current one where it seems a lot of the time it is too quiet, which normally leads to me having to render an audio track with the metronome and increase the volume. Very time consuming and clunky. Can we not have something similar to what is (or was when I was using it) in Logic Audio?

You can change metronome sounds. One lazzy day I even googled and made collection of "all DAWs metronomes".

I don't want to change the sound, that is not what I said! It's all about the midi!

I would love to see a metronome automation track where you could turn it on and off, change the volume and possible change the sound or other settings.  Sometimes, especially after drums are recorded, we don't want it except where the drums are silent and other time, we want it soft (to prevent bleed through headphones) but need to increase the volume for a loud portion of the song.

Yes, I know I can render it and do all this to the track but a simple automation would be faster.
