I am running into the track limit of my StudioLive 1642 ai, and would love to expand the mixer with a RM16ai. Is it possible to daisy chain the two?

No, cascading is only possible within the "families" (SL & SL, RM & RM). Why not get a SL2442AI or a RML32AI? Both would give you more inputs and tracks (recording) and more auxes.
