There is only one installer on Mac OS X for Studio One.
Older builds of StudioOne run in 32 bit mode by default. Starting with build 2.6.4, just released late 2014, this build installs by default as 64 bit mode.
To switch StudioOne to 64 bit mode, please follow the instructions below.
1. Browse to your Applications folder using your MAC finder.
2. Right click on the StudioOne Application or Control Click.
3. Click on "Get info".
4. Expand the General Tab.
5. Deselect the box entitled "Open StudioOne in 32 bit mode".
Some important notes on 32 bit versus 64 bit modes for software:
- An app running in 32-bit mode can only address 4GB of virtual memory no matter how much is installed/supported in the machine (although a Mac with lots of RAM can run several fully-resident 4GB processes at once); and if the kernel is in 32-bit mode it can only allocate up to 4GB for its various data structures (page table, process table, open file table, etc). On larger sessions with lots of automation or VST plug-ins that may be memory intensive, you should take this into account if you are having issues with StudioOne crashing in 32 bit mode.
- StudioOne is not cross bit rate compatible when it comes to plug-ins and bit bridging. A plugin that will only run in 32 bit mode, will not show up in StudioOne 64 bit. This is the same for plugins that only support 64 bit mode, these will not show up in a 32 bit version of StudioOne.
- To locate the build you have installed and identify the bit rate running fort that build, open StudioOne, then Select the "Studio One" menu option. In the drop down menu, select "About Studio One". You will find the build installed, as well as the bit rate listed there on the About StudioOne page.
