If you purchase an AudioBox USB (or any audio recording product) from PreSonus and you bought it from a retailer, in a store or from an online retailer as a new product and you are the first owner of the product. Yes you get a free installation of Studio One 3 Artist with it.
If you purchase a PreSonus audio recording product 2nd hand, off an auction site used, from a **** shop or got it from a friend, then no, you are not going to get a free copy of Studio One 3 Artist upon registration. The previous owner would (at their discretion) need to transfer the Studio One Artist license to you.
If you don't know the previous owner, then yes you would need to purchase the software, or use the Free version called Studio One Prime.
PreSonus AudioBox recording products work class compliant on Mac OS X and offer low latency device drivers with free device driver downloads allowing it to be used with a variety of audio recording software products on the market, not just Studio One should you need or want to use another application.
