Can you really add multiple verses - Notion 6?

I have tried many times to add a second verse to a piece (Mac OS) is my system - not iOS.  I put "1.syllable" (without the ""s) and the first word of first verse fine.  When I go to add the second verse the LYR tool is grey until I put the LYR overtop of the first verse. When I click and type "2." and a syllable, "2. syllable" overwrites the "1.syllable".  The Notion 6 directions in the guide are horrible and don't address really how to add verses beyond 1.  With that said, can anyone help?

"Notion supports up to nine lines of lyrics under notes in the score .

1 . Ensure you are in Edit mode .

2 .  To specify a verse, press the letter then press the verse number (to 9) ."

THE GOTCHA' is you have to activate Lyrics with the hot-key "L" then press the verse number.  It doesn't seem to work via the "Lyr-ics"  button in the Entry Palette.  Had me going for awhile too.
