It seems very countet-intuitive that to get basic functions used at the beginning of mixing are hidden by default.  Gain staging, etc, would be much easier for users familiar with DAWs in general but new to SO if they saw the Input Controls right away.  Of course if they preferred not to, or only wanted them showing until after the first steps of mixing, there could be an option to hide Input Controls.  Thank you for your consideration.

You can just make a template that has this and use that every time. When I'm on my Laptop my template doesn't show them (takes up lots of space) and when I'm on my desktop my template has them available.

I can, yes.  But that doesn't change the fact that it would be easier if it was just there in the first place, especially for someone just starting to use SO after another DAW.  It's a fairly basic functionality IMHO for a new user to have to go looking for.

I COMPLETELY agree!

Moreover, we should be able to set certain things up (like input gain/pregain) in a universal settings folder, for those of us who want to start our mixes at -18 or whatever other "Wacky Things" which we (the customer) chooses to do.  It should just be easier.
