Question

The lack of any meaningful control over font sizes is a gross oversight and significantly diminishes the user experience.

I understand the concepts behind developing this functionality and see some arguments against. I suggest you analyze your user base to determine the average age of professional users and if, as I suspect, a significant proportion is over 40, then you should be able to see the wisdom in leading the industry in providing a key productivity resource to your community.
