This is pretty common technique for string instruments (orchestral strings, guitar, ukulele, etc.) It is needed quite often in solo or chamber music pieces.

Sorry but I have a question for you as a violin player ,  I am using studio 26c on my iMac the problem I'm having is that it cuts out when I play my high notes.  the mic that is plugged into it works it only cuts out when I play my violin.     any suggestions for me
