I would have thought this problem would be fixed by now, but apparently it is not fixed. Evidently, Fender has no intention of fixing it. Why do I say this? Because I contacted Fender about this problem way back in September 2023. They said my account was in "mid-migration" to a new payment processor, and that "until a payment is processed, you will not be able to change the card on file. You will need to resubscribe when your current subscription expires." I replied that this was very disappointing, and that I would have supposed Fender would work harder to retain its S1 legacy customers. I asked whether my content (e.g., downloaded sample packs) would be lost when I resubscribe but I received no answer to that question.
