I know that you cannot place the Scepter 8's on their sides.  My problem is that mine sit on top of my Argosy Desk that houses rack spaces on either side, with Digidesign Pro Control units in the middle.

Because of that, the center of the speaker if placed upright pointing above my ear in my sitting position, even though I have them tilted down towards the sitting position.

When I place them upside down, with the bass port on the top, the center speaker aligns properly with my ears in the mix position.

is it ok to place them upside down?

The speakers were not meant to be used that way. We would not recommend using them inverted.

Perhaps investing in a different Studio Chair that elevates your sitting position may be in order. If you do this you may need to retune your room to the sweet spot for your mixing position is adjusted for in the room acoustics.

It would be really helpful to post a picture of your setup in your original question so we and/or the community can assist in providing a more informed answer.
