Shure SM58/AudioBox 22VSL/Studio One Professional/Macbook Pro 2015(Sierra) combination doesn't seem to provide natural singing vocals - is the problem the mic, settings or something else? Most of my listening is done via Grado SR80 headphones, or Elac Jet speakers and subwoofer via a Yamaha stereo amplifier.

Everything works fine, no clicks, pops or noise - it just doesn't sound very 'natural'. Is there a recommended vocal microphone for acoustic/ballad/folk style music with guitars? Is there anything I should be doing with the computer? FYI I'm a tenor.

I am recording in a small room, with no soundproofing/deadening 8ft by 9ft by 8ft high.

Open to any recommendations. Thank you in advance.

The audio engineering biz is very subjective.  What sounds one way to you may not to others.  The challenge is to mix in many ways and with varied equipment.  Ultimately, you're the engineer, you're the artist.  It's up to you.  No right way, no wrong way, just our own way.  My philosophy anyway.

You might still have a hardware fault with something, tho it sounds like things do work.  Troubleshoot a bit.

Test different mics, cables, headphones, speakers, etc...

In testing, the only way to know a device or function is faulty is to compare it with other same or similar.

If one device has same issue with any setup, suspect device.
