Question

Some vst insert effects have the ability to output audio to another track. Unfiltered audio g8 allows this,  it has channels 3 and 4 to process audio separately. Is this possible? I can't see a way. It seems this is only possible with instruments.

Studio One doesn't appear to have any facility to bus audio directly from an insert plugin to another audio track so if you don't see a way to make that connection - if ch's 3-4 of that plugin don't show up as input sources anywhere to assign to anything - it's likely not be possible.
