How to make Roland A-500pro midi keyboard work with studio one

Hi

I am just getting started with Studio one and can't seem to make my Roland midi keyboard work with it, I can't believe that two such prominent brands would be incompatible with each other - so could anyone tell me/guess what I might be doing wrong?
