I'm having a problem with external hardware and this may be long because I want to go ahead and tell everything I've tried so far. I have Studio One 4.5 Professional and a Presonus 1824c Interface with Windows 10. For the longest time I was getting a feedback loop when I tried to use an external piece of gear. I'd taken a break from the problem only mixing in the box until today I got back at trying to solve the issue.

Today I figured out the Feedback Loop problem lies within Universal Control with the DAW faders. I learned I could disable the mixer in Universal Control and everything then would be controlled in Studio One as turning down the faders you lose the signal you're trying to send out. I tried once again setting up an instance of pipeline on the track I need external hardware on, routing my track to output 8 on the interface, to IN on rack gear, the OUT of the rack gear I sent to input 1 on the interface and assigned it to new track. Now when I play there's no feedback loop but also no sound when Pipeline is active. When pipeline is disabled I have sound. I tracked that to Output 8 (Note I also tried other outputs as well) as when I unplug the "OUT" cord from the interface and touch it I get static and can see the return meter rise in pipeline.

So now that the Mixer of Universal Control is inactive the outputs aren't working. So I got to thinking I may need to turn on the Cue mix for the outputs. I then realized you can only do that to Stereo channels (all of my outputs are set up as mono). So I tried setting it up as a stereo channel, also without any luck as well. I'm completely lost. what do I need to do to get pipeline and external hardware working? How does Universal Control need to be setup to stop the feedback loop?

Have you figure this out yet?? Im really new to using external hardware. I want to learn more so ive been dabbling in and learning on videos. I tried last night with my presonus studio channel preamp. Using pipeline i got it to work but alot of noise feedback when bringing gains up on preamp and level. One question i have if im running my preamp into channel 3 on my interface. The gain for that channel on interface what should i have that set at? When turning the gain down on channel input the noise went away. But then my volume was close to none. I felt discouraged after because to me it was a failed attempt. Ive learned alot are talking about universal controller settings. Can you help me have a better understanding of them settings and what i need to have them set at to run external hardware.

I might add. When pipeline wasn’t  inserted yet. When turning on my gr meter on studio channel preamp. It shows signal and the meter jumps around when song plays. Is this normal. Why is this happening when i haven’t assigned pipeline to preamp yet. I get Im coming out of the interface. But if i haven't assigned pipeline why do i still have signal coming thru preamp. Also my main out on mixer kept being replaced to line 1 and line 2 out. When it should say main left and right
