I would like to see the channel numbers auto-populate and be moved out of the scribble strip area to their own piece of real estate in UC Surface.

Reasons why:

1. Leave more available characters for channel naming.

2. Too much fiddling is required when creating new channels and with the current options available, it almost always requires the user to manually type the channel #'s again anyway.  The current default channel names take up too many characters spaces so most  of us, I assume, come up with our own scheme anyway.

3.   Channel numbers are physically a one to one relationship, with the exception of cascading which still the channel number is known by they mixers and could be displayed elsewhere.   Taking up scribble strip space for channel # seems like not the best use of a system known parameter in a user definable field.

4.  Just verified perhaps the most important point - The CS18AI already does this and actually is displaying redundant channel  information if the channels are entered in UC Surface as well.

Thanks

Why do you need the channel numbers displayed together with the channel name?

Makes sense. I sometimes have to look for the numbers too when you. You can do this by selecting the channel but his shoul not be neccessary. As you say, the CS also displays the channel numbers.permanently. Although it could be smaller with more space for the channel name, but that is another story, and request.
