Why does merge events with Snap turned on create a longer clip?

A strange one... when I try and merge two audio events, a longer event is created with extra dead space at the start and end. However, if I turn off the 'Snap' function, the events merge as expected with the same start and end points.

I've genuinely no idea why longer events are created with the 'Snap' function on. Why would anyone want extra dead space after having neatly trimmed their audio events to the desired points? Is this a bug or is there a setting I can change so that this doesn't happen (other than turning toggling Snap every time a merge events)? Has anyone else come up with this issue?

(Tried opening a ticket with PreSonus but seems they're offline and tickets can't be submitted?)

I can confirm this behavior and will report back with any updates.
