Independent software it is, even with Studio One, though the latter can share information with Notion more easily.

Notion can interact with any DAW that uses Rewire.  Logic can host Notion with Rewire.  Rewire is a free application created by Propellerhead which makes Reason.  The Logic manual should tell you how to setup Rewire
