What is the difference between Windows Audio "shared" and "exclusive" modes? I understand shared mode allows multiple clients to share the audio device while exclusive allows a single client. It seems shared mode is more convenient, under what circumstances would one choose exclusive mode? Are there any trade-offs?

I used to think shared mode caused higher latency but in Studio One I can adjust the latency to the same low value in either mode, so I'm confused.
