Recorded midi parts are silent during playback but not during recording

just un-arm the track for recording, that's how input monitoring works

It doesn't happen when I record anything else only midi from the supplied instruments

You must make sure it actually recorded. Do you see midi events in the track window? If you only arm the monitor button with the little speaker, it will not record. If you are using an external device, make sure the midi channel of the track corresponds to the midi channel of the device.

Maybe I should have been more clear, I do not have this issue when I record anything else but midi. With the track armed for recording I record and midi data shows up on the track window as a straight line, when I play it back I hear a faint hit but no other audio
