The question is whether to let windows handle the audio routing.

I understand the difference between my built in soundcard and my iTwo, also aware that Studio One adresses only one sound device at once, but;

1. If I choose Audiobox as my soundcard in Studio One I am not able to select any other inputs than the one found on my iTwo.

2. If I choose Windows Audio instead, I get to choose which in and outputs to use, so I can choose to use my iTwo as output and my Samson Meteor as input.

In the case of 2. this does not route any signal through my computers built in soundcard (afaik, unless I choose it to do so). Unless I am misunderstanding something, this just means Studio One will adress Windows for any audio routing, and Windows will then handle it from there and route the signal to whatever input/output I choose using the control panel. This gives me more flexibility than 1. but I suspect it could lead to higher latency (because Windows is a middle layer rather than Studio One adressing my soundcard directly) and perhaps even other problems.

In the case of 1. Studio One adresses my iTwo directly, something tells me this could/should lead to less latency (and perhaps even less problems?) than 2. and this is the core of my question.

The drawback may be that the Windows audio driver is (generally speaking) not as well suited for low latency audio performance and may not work as well as a good ASIO driver.

You can however combine multiple devices on Windows using the ASIO4ALL driver.   http://asio4ll.com  Presonus does not support that driver but it does appear to perform better than the Windows audio drivers.
