We are using a pair of the very nice Eris 3.5 speakers in our studio. But when I connect a pair of balanced (2-conductor shielded) TRS cables from the TRS speaker outputs of a Monitor Station v2 to the Eris' TRS inputs, the gain is low and the tone becomes thin, as though the cables are "one-legged", or missing one of the conductors. Pulling the inputs out halfway produces a lot more gain and a much fuller tone. I've been wiring cables for microphones and mixing consoles for 40 years, so I'm positive that the cables are properly wired.
What this situation tells me is that either the outputs of the Monitor Station or the inputs of the Eris speakers is NOT truly balanced, even though the published specs of both units claim that they are balanced.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanx,
TE
