If I download a drum track off of YouTube (or even buy it from the source), would I then be able to send it to my friend that also has presonus software so that we could each work on it separately? Or would he have to buy it himself as well?

That depends on the license agreement of the providers / reseller providing the source content at the time of purchase.

Read all agreements carefully.
