Hi.
I reckon this would require a custom designed and built box of electronics trickery (that bit is not all that difficult) and also some custom software to get a signal from your computer (the really difficult bit).  Maybe the best solution would be to adapt a battery operated light with remote. Just have the remote on the desk and press it before recording?

As I'm a programmer the programming would'nt be my problem. But where can I get the information about "record on/off". Is there any API to connect?

That's what I'm saying when I say the programming is the difficult bit: how are you going to get a software flag that tells you record is either on or off... I'm not sure if Presonus would help you with that.

Would it be possible to write a programme that looks at the data going to the display and whether the pixels that correspond with the red record circle have switched (to 'red')? If so,  you could write a programme to send a signal to an external port based on that.

Hello colinotoole,
it's a workaround and it works. But only if the recordbutton is at the same place on the screen.
Now I can send a MIDI-signal to the DMX-Controller or a message directly to a connected DMX-Interface.
Maybe one day we'll get an API from PreSonus.

hi,

Many years ago I hacked into my original Faderport's record LED and got a pair of wires running to a relay and a large red record sign. I have used it every day since. Because the LEDs are multiplexed in the Faderport I occasionally  get a false on, but very rarely.
