My EarMix 16M sounds are distorted

Environment:

Studiolive series III 24R, NSB8X8, and EarMix 16M.  I do not have an AVB switch.  The AVB network runs from the Studiolive24R to the NSB and then from there it daisy chains to the EarMix 16M.  The stage box sits next to my Roland drum kit.  All eight of the Roland outputs are connected to the eight NSB inputs.  All three boxes have the latest firmware.

Problem:

When I adjust the volume of the EarMix 16M to a good level, I get distortion on my drums and red LEDs.  If I turn the individual channels down to where I do not get that distortion and red LED's, the volume is too weak to hear over the main speakers.  The master volume stays with red LED's almost all the time.  However, when I use one of my Shure PSM 930 wireless in-ear monitor units, it all sounds fine.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!
