Both have their pluses and minuses, I personally use an SSD for boot drive and a 2 TB platter drive for my storage. As long as you have a 7200 RPM drive or greater you should be good. This offers me fast boot and function and bigger mass storage. If you intend to get into MASSIVE track counts, then multiple SSD drives might be a better route.

It depends on how many tracks you run and whether you are streaming samples from disk. If you need to stream samples off a drive and you have a large number of tracks, you will have much better luck with an SSD. I almost doubled the number of tracks with samples I could stream without dropouts when I changed to SSDs for holding the samples.

I also found that changing my internal drive to an SSD greatly improved performance.
