2 x midi controllers setting channels - both midi controllers responding

Hi

PC Windows 10

RAM 64 Gig

DAW's

1. Studio one 5

2. Roland Cloud

2. Native Instruments Komplete 12 Ultimate

I have just bought second keyboard (Native Instruments Komplete S61)

I have an additional midi controller keyboard (Alesis Q88 MKII)

I am trying to setup that on midi Channels 1 & 2 I use the Alesis and on Channels 3 - 16 I use the S61

I cannot stop both Keyboards playing any midi channel irrespective of how I set it up - I need this for live performance to be able to play both keyboards on different channels

Settings as follows

1. External Devices (MIDI)

   i. Receive From - Alesis Q88 MKII - Channels 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16

   ii. Receive from - Komplete S61 - Channels 1 & 2

Send to - Blank for both

Any ideas as I also want to use this in home studio to try practice performances for live playing using 2 keyboards playing 2 instruments on different channels

Go to external devices and select one of your keyboards.  Either click the edit button or double click on the instrument name to open the instrument edit dialogue.   Make sure your receive from and send to are set.  Look for an option under the [send to] drop down you will see an option "split channels".  Enable this option.  Click OK.  Do this for as many keyboards as you want to have the ability available on.   Now open a new song and drag/drop any instrument into the song.  At the top of the instrumemt window where you select inputs you should now be able to assign midi instrument and channel.

All cool.  I forgot to mention thay you can select/deselect channels for your keyboards.  For example once you have followed the instructions given in my first post, you will notice that there are 16 channels to send on.  You can very easily select, for example, the Alesis Keyboard and have it only communicate on channels 1-4 and then have the N.I. keyboard on channels 5-9.
