If I own studio one artist 5.2 do I have to BUY artist  5.3?

No. To get an update you have a few options: 

  1. When Studio One launches you should have a notice at the top that there's a new version available
  2. Open the help menu and select "Check for Updates"
  3. Visit your my.presonus.com account and download the new version and install it, the installer will update your existing version.
