It would be nice to have so called tempo sets. This allows you to have a final tempo for your project AND a "rehearsal" tempo for live playing of difficult MIDI parts. This is available in Cubase, Logic and Digital Performer.

Cakewalk offered a Tempo Offset, which was a configurable percentage of the actual song tempo which you could configure, then a simple button click plays back and records at the offset tempo.
