I am running a 15' macbook pro, latest OS and the latest version on Studio One 3. I have a novation mini nova connected USB, and I have it set up as an instrument on a track. Studio one reads the Midi strings, and will write a track when i press record, however, there is no output signal to the meters, nor sound to my speakers. I am not running an interface, I am just using my onboard sound card.

In I/O setup, everything is set to use my built in output. and the midi track is being sent to "Main" and the main fader volume is up, un- muted, and going to output 1+2.

I have tried using the built in Presonus instruments, and it i have the same problems. The instrument will write a midi track, but will not give me any output volume or signal.

Any tips or tricks is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Midi in itself is nothing more then information sent to an instrument

If you are recording midi from your Novation Mini Nova and want it to play back, you need to send the midi (information) back to the Mini Nova and have the output of the Mini Nova sent to the input of your soundcard so you will be able to hear what it is producing... and ofcourse set that input correctly in Studio One

If you just want to record the midi and use a VST instrument, is another thing.

Record your midi and drop a VST-i on top of it and choose a sound

Shouldn't really be more then that
