I have a cs 18, an rm32 and studio one 3 pro. I would like to send a channel to studio one to use a insert ( plug-in ) to modify a signal then send it back to the rm32 for FOH. I have no luck getting it to work.

This is an interesting question which has not really been answered before. As far as I know, what you want to do is not possible, because the RM mixers are not designed to handle the signal flow of two different "digital" sources (firewire and network) at the same time. On the other hand there are the option for a wireless connection of RM and CS or a direct ethernet connection, which do not affect firewire. Generally Dante seems to be more flexible, but then your CS works as remote control only. I would suggest that you ask this question in the "Live Sound" forum and its "CS18AI Control Surface" subforum. There are specialists around, who are willing to answer a question which can not be answered in one sentence...

I am not following why the other poster believes this is not possible, using plugins live is possible with an RM32AI or any of the Studio Live hardware and Studio One 3 running on a computer and connected to the interface.  There are plenty of other tutorial videos, but an overview of what you are looking to do is described here:

It is no question that SL and RM mixers can use Studio One's sound processing and plug-ins, but the question is if this works with a network added (AVB, Dante, direct ethernet, wireless connection). The "digital button" is used by firewire and network at the same time, which leads to conflicts. It might be that recording through firewire is possible, but the problem lies in the routing back of signals to the networked mixer. Using a wireless connection between SL and RM also seems to be a solution or workaround, but being depend on 2.4 GHz (the smartphone frequency) for mixing a concert is a no-go.
