Filter tracks and channels by name

Reaper has an interesting track management feature where tracks and channels can be filtered by name by typing into a text box, a bit like the browser 'search' function. Users could type "bass" and only tracks with "bass" in their name would be shown. In Studio One this could be a text box a the top of the Track List panel. The concept could be implemented in the console too. Ideally:

  • Typing ocal would match vocals (i.e. no need to match whole words)
  • Typing ocal ema would match female vocals (i.e. out of sequence matching possible)
  • Typing "bass drum" (enclosed in quote marks) would match fat bass drum but not bass and drum (i.e. quotes are used when white spaces must be included in the search).
  • This would complement track and mix "scenes" rather nicely.

In fairness, the browser search functionality is rather basic, and some of these ideas could be applied to the browser search box. Seraching stuff in Reaper is more flexible than in Studio One, would be worth a look.

Thumbs up.....not quite sure why this had a thumbs down. I added a thumbs up, as its a great Idea. Some people are so selfish thinking they should thumbs down something that literally doesn't affect their workflow.
