An alternative, more convenient for some people, Snap Function addition.

Hello,

I have a request concerning snapping. Instead of being limited to the current “Soft Snap” only, I would like to be given the option to alternatively use “Hard Snap” as seen in Cubase (it is the standard snap function there) and other DAWs instead. In other words, being able to set the Snap Intensity/Strength like Sonar or Reaper allow you to.

Considering migrating from Cubase, as many others, I decided to try Studio One and although I really like its workflow and innovative features, not being able to effectively utilize such an essential, basic feature is regrettably a deal breaker for me.
I mean, when Snap is ON , set to “Quantize” and “Snap to Grid”, I simply expect to be able to enter/edit/move/quantize notes and events strictly to the quantize resolution I’ve set, rather than having them free-sliding all around the place, being allowed to just drop them anywhere and only have the soft magnetic snap taking effect when I approach the given note value. Especially while you are zoomed in, working with smaller note values, it practically feels like the snap function is broken.

Upon searching, I see this topic being brought up before in the forums and as an example, I think it’s the root of the problems some of these users have with snapping:

I can imagine how some Studio One veterans may think this is as an unnecessary addition, but I am sure others, especially people considering migrating from Cubase, will see it as a remedy of unnecessary hassle and alienation.
At the end of the day, being given the freedom of choice is always a good thing. smiley
Thanks a lot.
