I'm not too keen on needing to purchase new equipment such as a monitor station. I can just about live without being able to hear iTunes on my big hi-fi speakers when the Quantum is set up, although am really surprised this is not possible given all the extra outputs.

Within my DAW (Pro Tools 11), surely there must be a way of getting my main mix playing back on BOTH my monitors and hi-fi speakers (i.e. outputs 1-2) simultaneously? I'm able to listen separately by switching the output on the I/O, but really had expected I could just route the main mix to the other outputs and listen at the same time.

Not possible because Quantum has no internal mixer. Most everything related to routing is handled in the DAW.

To copy your mains to another output, create a "Cue Mix" inside of Pro Tools.
This is the same method used to create headphone/monitor mixes from inside of a DAW.
