Can I use SLIII 32R in stagebox mode as the input to Mac Mini?

I know that the answer is yes (because I'm doing it), but that's not my complete question.  For some reason, I can't connect my SLIII 32 console to my Mac Mini by AVB (a problem I'm working on separately), but I can connect my new 32R to my Mac Mini by AVB while it's in stagebox mode (I'm running everything through a MOTU AVB switch).

My problem is that I'm confused as what the difference is between using the SLIII 32 console vs. the 32R as the input to the Mac Mini when the 32R is in stagebox mode.  For example, on which device is the Fat Channel being applied--the console, right?  So, if I'm getting my input from the 32R, I'm getting it right after the preamp of the 32R and before the Fat Channel and effects I apply on the console--unless I send everything back to the 32R as a mix and use that as an input?

Is that right?  What else do I need to consider?

I wish I could just make it all work from the console to the Mac Mini, but that's a problem for another day.

Mark

UPDATE:  Wait, now I'm recalling something in one of the manuals that AVB to the Mac isn't supposed to work when in stagebox mode.  I can't seem to find that notice now.  Did this change?  Now I'm really confused.

Hi,

Because of how macOS connects to an AVB device as an audio interface, it is not possible to have a Mac connected to either mixer over AVB while using Stagebox mode. Do not connect your Mac to your AVB network while using Stagebox mode.

Its covered on Page 8. Link: https://pae-web.presonusmusic.com/downloads/products/pdf/StudioLive_Series_III_Stagebox_Mode_Addendum_06102017.pdf
