I am having the same issue, I have passive high output pickups (nazgul).
related to an answer for:
Guitar clipping in studio one even with audiobox knobs turned all the way down.

I think, passive is your best bet. Active ones actually amplify the signal and you don't want it.
Be sure to get a solid-quality DI (like Radial JDI), as cheap ones are easier to overload.
